Job Title: Safety and Health Specialist
(City of Philadelphia Risk Management Department)

Due to our continued growth, we are currently seeking a qualified candidate for a Safety & Health Specialist working onsite at the City of Philadelphia Department of Risk Management.
This position involves developing, implementing, and supporting occupational and environmental safety and health programs for the City Risk Management Department, and providing various technical and consultative support to other City Departments. The position provides day-to-day support in injury/illness prevention, safety, industrial hygiene, regulatory compliance, and loss control programs. The successful candidate will: prepare detailed reports for management and employee action; propose methods to remediate hazards; communicate findings; follow up on corrective actions to assure compliance with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations; and develop and present effective safety training programs to City employees.
The successful candidate must hold a B.S. or M.S. in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related physical/biological sciences at an accredited college or university. A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience is required in occupational safety and health or industrial hygiene, including the investigation, analysis, and evaluation of workplace conditions, practices, programs, and employee injuries. Other critical requirements include:
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports, and present effective employee and supervisory training programs
- • Demonstrated knowledge of HS&E client concerns
- • Continued commitment to self-development in H&S regulatory knowledge and technical expertise, including active participation in professional associations and continuous education
- • Ability to work in a collaborative manner with team members
- • Flexibility and comfort working under tight deadlines with changing priorities
- • Excellent customer service and follow-up skills and behaviors
- • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for periodic local travel
Prior experience with PA Accident and Illness Prevention Program (AIPP) requirements for self-insured employers is a significant advantage. Applicable certifications (ARM, ALCM, CSP), as well as experience with contractor safety is a plus.
