Construction Ordinance for Boston Goes Into Effect December 2023

A new construction Safety Training Ordinance, recently signed by Mayor Michelle Wu on June 1st, is set to go into effect December 2, 2023.  This ordinance is viewed as an important step to enhance the City’s efforts to reduce worker injuries and fatalities on construction and demolition sites in Boston.  The ordinance introduces new safety guidelines at construction sites and requires,

  • Site Safety Plan Affidavit
  • Site Safety Monitoring Plan
  • Designated Site Safety Coordinator (for construction projects larger than 50,000 square feet and demolition jobs for buildings four stories or taller) with at least 30-hour OSHA training certification

CMI’s Construction Safety & Training Services can assist with the three key elements of the ordinance:

  • Project On-site Safety Professionals / Certified Safety Professionals (CSPs)
    • full or part-time safety professionals assigned to your project
  • Professional EHS Safety Training
  • Detailed development & implementation of Site Safety Plans
